PinoyLit gratefully acknowledges the support of Dean E. V. Gruenberg and Mrs. Bezalie B. Uc-Kung, Executive Director of New Day Publishers, for granting permission to post excerpts of the book Filipino Writers in English by Florentino B. Valeros and Estrellita V. Gruenberg.

From the back cover of Filipino Writers in English:

Florentino B. Valeros was professor of English and head, Department of English, University of the East. Earlier he served as head of the Department of English, American, Philippine literature, and educational research. At the NTC, he introduced the first 3-unit course in Philippine literature-- in the beginning as an elective (1946), but subsequently the Bureau of Private Schools with Dr. Jesus Perpiñan as director made it a required subject for B.S.E. students with major or minor in English. Also at the NTC, he introduced and taught Oriental Literature (in English translations).

Estrellita Valeros-Gruenberg, (then) associate professor in the Department of Literature of De La Salle University, is concurrently dean of the Graduate School of Arts, Education and Science of the same univeristy. Prior to her assignment, she was associate dean, DLSU College of Liberal Arts (1983-1985). She was at one time registrar (1980-1982) and assistant to the executive vice-president (1979-1980) of the Lyceum of the Philippines. In 1971-1973, she was assistant academic director of the Center for Educational Television, Ateneo de Manila University; and chairman and lecturer in the summer training programs for teachers of instructional television in English (1969-1973).
